Emeritus Professor Cuevas’ research interests include the theoretical modelling of solar cells, the characterisation of the fundamental properties of silicon, the improvement of silicon surfaces using thin film coatings, and the development of advanced solar cells and new fabrication technologies. Andres Cuevas has contributed to the development of silicon solar cells since 1976, first at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, where he obtained the PhD degree in 1980 and then at Stanford University, where he was a Fulbright Fellow. In 1993 he joined The Australian National University, where he became Professor of Engineering. During the period 2007-10 he was Head of the ANU School of Engineering and during 20013-14 Deputy Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Photovoltaics, and of Physica Status Solidii rrl.
Activities & Awards
In 2013 Emeritus Professor Cuevas was elected Fellow of the IEEE for contributions to the science and technological development of silicon solar cells. In 2015 he was awarded the Becquerel Prize for outstanding merits in Photovoltaics. From 2018 he has been an Emeritus Professor of the Austrlian National University.
