Spark Detection and Control in the Detector

Project durationN/A
Posted date13 March 2026

Project description

High voltages are applied to the detector and corresponding currents are measured using current sensors.

This project will involve analysing this current data and modelling the system to predict when sparking is about to occur in the detector. These sparks are due to avalanche processes occurring inside the detector. The sparks can also be detected using an imaging sensor.

If the sparks can be successfully predicted, a control system can be designed to adjust the high voltage levels to reduce the incidence of sparking whilst maintaining operation of the detector.
