Our vision for the Kim Jackson Scholarship program at The Australian National University (ANU) is to empower and inspire women to pursue engineering at Australia’s leading university, and to create the conditions for them to flourish in their studies and future careers.

Improving diversity in our engineering talent pipeline benefits us all. It creates greater equality of opportunity, enhanced productivity and innovation, and fresh perspectives on problem-solving (Engineers Australia).

Engineering is an exciting, creative and rapidly evolving profession, with skilled graduates in incredibly high demand. At the ANU School of Engineering, our students learn among a community of innovative peers, teachers and researchers who are finding solutions to the world’s greatest challenges. Our graduates are innovative, job-ready and taught by the best.

We’re proud that the number of female-identifying ANU engineering students regularly exceeds the national average, and we are committed to supporting every aspect of their student experience.

Our Kim Jackson Scholarship program is built around three pillars of flourishing and success: belonging, confidence, and leadership.

Together with our founding donors, Kim Jackson and the SKIP Foundation, we foster an inclusive community where women can thrive, innovate, and lead, and help drive transformative change and problem-solving on a national and global scale.

Scholarship benefits

Scholars receive a generous financial award of $25,000 per year for up to five years, plus a package of wrap-around support designed to help them succeed: tailored support for their transition to ANU; welcome and orientation activities; a mentoring program; facilitated connections with current and former Scholars, student peers, leading academics and industry bodies; and skills workshops centred around our three program pillars.

Belonging

Belonging is a vital factor in student success. When you’re accepted, valued and included, you can begin to thrive.

Confidence

Building confidence for women in male-dominated fields relies on skilful communication, resilient networks and a strengths-based approach.

Leadership

Growing numbers of women in engineering leadership roles will drive a more innovative and successful engineering industry for Australia.

Eligibility

The Kim Jackson Scholarship is awarded to support engineering students who identify as female during their undergraduate degree at The Australian National University (ANU). Current scholarships are available for women from non-metropolitan areas enrolled in the ANU Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Engineering (Research and Development)(Honours) single or double degree.

For more information, view the Conditions of Award.

“My scholarship brought me from my rural home to Canberra. I’m grateful that ANU does this... There are still so many voices that we need to hear.”
- Lily Delves, Kim Jackson Scholar

“A rural Australian girl like me can study engineering and one day work on rockets and jets. A university scholarship tells students that the door is open, and we want you here.”
- Josie Bates, Kim Jackson Scholar

About our founding donors

ANU is grateful for the generous and visionary support of Kim Jackson and the SKIP Foundation

Ensuring equality of opportunity in education is a vital part of our mission as Australia’s national university. We are grateful for the donors who make this important work possible.

You can’t be what you can’t see. I envision these women going on to create groundbreaking companies, instigate meaningful change, and lead with purpose. I hope they become the visible role models that the next generation of girls needs to see what’s possible.
- Kim Jackson, ANU alumna and SKIP Foundation founder
