Project scope

  • At least 1 day @ week on campus, involving lab work.
  • Suitable for School of Engineering research-based courses, such as: ENGN4200, ENGN4706, and ENGN4712.
  • Suitable for both domestic and international students.

Project description

The project will involve collecting EEG responses of listeners immersed in a soundfield produced by singing bowls (a traditional musical instrument used to induce deep rest). The data will then be analysed using EEG signal processing techniques to learn the induced brain patterns and map their correlations with the soundfield dynamics.

Deliverables

  • A EEG dataset of soundfield dynamics and induced brain patterns.
  • A research report on relationships between the frequency spectrum produced by singing bowls and induced brainwave patterns.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in signal processing and be motivated to understand how therapeutic sounds affect brain patterns.

  • Sociable - as the project will involve recording EEG signals from many participants.
