Amos Lee

Bachelor of Engineering (R&D) (Honours)/Bachelor of Science

I don’t see myself doing a 9 to 5 job in future. I want to do research to solve real world problems.

Most students who came from tropical countries often find Canberra’s winter to be quite cold. However, Amos Lee, an A*STAR scholarship recipient is thrilled to live in a country that has four seasons in a year.

Amos has always been fascinated with the Australian culture since he was young. After completing his Diploma of Clean Energy from Singapore Polytechnic, Amos decided that he wanted to live and study in Australia for a few years.

After much thought and consideration, Amos chose to study the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Science Flexible Double Degree at The Australian National University (ANU).

“I looked through Australian universities rankings to see which university I should choose. ANU is a research intensive University and it is ranked highly in the world. It seems to fit me best as it has everything that I require – a unique research intensive undergraduate degree.”

“I’m so amazed by how capable everyone in my class is. Based on only one year of studies at ANU, they are able to come up with such diverse research ideas. You can only imagine what kind of great research everyone will be doing in the future!”

With his strong passion for research in renewable energy and a strong mindset for success, Amos managed to transfer to the Bachelor of Engineering (Research and Development) (Honours) after one semester of studies at ANU. Amos will be undertaking a short term internship in Singapore during his summer holiday.

“I don’t see myself doing a 9 to 5 job in future. I want to do research to solve real world problems. There will be a sense of freshness every day and that is what motivates and drives me to work hard.”

His advice to international students starting at ANU is to explore scholarships available in their country and at ANU and to attend Australian educational expos in their country.

“Before accepting my offer to study at ANU, I met with a couple of ANU students at an expo in Singapore. I also had the chance to speak to a faculty member from ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science through a one-on-one consultation session and all these have helped me to make a decision that I will never regret.”
